Call for hearing(s) to assess metrics used in determining economic development initiatives in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas
The Committee on Economic, Capital, and Technology Development reviewed the 2023 Transition Report at a City Council Meeting on December 13, 2023. The report targets equitable economic development, wealth gap reduction, and entrepreneur support. The council critiqued the socioeconomically disadvantaged areas map, based on U.S. Census Tracts and 2014 American Community Survey data, for excluding tracts with a majority of Hispanic or Latino origin, low-income tracts, and areas experiencing income segregation, race or ethnic origin discrimination, and varying educational attainment.
